GAME OF THE MONTH
September 2005 Turtles |
![]() BACKGROUND INFO. Turtles based on a "stern/konami" arcade game was one of the first licensed arcade conversions for the Videopac console, and what a game it was, I had this in my original collection back in 1983 and was definitely one of my favourite games, it was very popular too, so getting hold of a copy for yourself shouldn't prove to difficult. it is also one of the earliest examples of videogame Easter eggs, little secrets hidden within the game by pressing a combination of keys you get an additional little hidden screen or feature. In the multi-storey "Turtle Towers Hotel" baby turtles are being held prisoner by deadly beetles. It is your job to help an adult turtle to rescue as many of the baby turtles as possible, and there's a reward for each baby turtle you find and rescue. But you'll have to be careful... If a beetle catches your turtle it will kill it instantly. However, you do have another three turtles standing by to take over the rescue mission. The US version of turtles I believe is also voice enhanced. Although the rumour is, that its not the most pleasant of sounds. and the US version is quite hard to get hold of, a lot harder than the European version. now what's special about turtles ? well the videopac/odyssey release of the game is the only place you will be able to play this very addictive game at home as it would appear that turtles (great game as it was) was NEVER released for any other home console/computer, so that's right the only way to play turtles is on your trusty old Videopac (or an emulator). Merchandising, there was a tee-shirt released to promote the game in the US. pictures of which can be found on the O2 Homepage. jump to games section for covers etc.
