Very interesting!

I'm especially interested in the story of the professor who used the Odyssey2 for his students.
Ted: is there any chance this professor would share the experiments of his students and the technical details of his RAMcart/terminal with us?

I figured that would raise some eyebrows. I was intrigued with the terminal, too. I'll have to dig up his email from my old laptop and ask for permission.

He did send me the terminal code and a pic of the board he built. It was a jumble of wire-wrapping, as I recall, but it did what it needed to do. I think he built 2 of them, so the students wouldn't have to fight over it as much.

I don't know if the project games can be shared, since it would probably be hard to find the students who wrote them -- I assume their permission would be needed. I'll try to get screenshots at the very least, though. Like I said, only 1 or 2 were actually finished, but all had some flicker problems.

Ted: what kind of game was your first Odyssey2 game? (before Planet Lander)
Would it be worth fixing it to work on real consoles?

It's name is (I'm making this up right now) Snake Catcher.

Here's the rom:

http://www.tedfoolery.com/roms/snake.bin

REMINDER: It only works in the emulator!

As you will see, it heavily relies on characters overlapping. I might be able to recreate the effect with sprites, but the snake might not be as long.

Instructions:
Press 0-9 for skill level. 0=easy, 9=hard

You are the man on the right. The object is to try to catch the snake without getting bitten. To catch the snake, touh any part of its body (not the head) and get a point. If you touch the face, you are bitten, and the snake gets a point. First to ten wins.

When you get close to the snake, he will see you and start to go after you (his eyes turn red). The skill level determines his 'eyesite range'.

looks cool ... but maybe I am doing wrong, neither me nor the snake is getting points and I can walk through all the trees ... no collision detection ?

This looks great! Too bad it won't work on a real console.

Collision detection works fine on my computer.

Apparently I was using an older version of O2em (1.01).
